2 out of 5 stars what a waste   July 24, 2009

I can't believe a company would go through the trouble of making such amazing graphics for a video game that sucked so bad. Hans doesn't speak for one, which makes the game very boring. no character development or personality whatsoever. I really didn't like a single character in this game. They were all rude, snotty, and arrogant. The navigation was horrible, the camera angle will change when you're walking down a street and you immediately become disoriented. there's no map, and the streets are quite a tangle, so you almost have to draw your own map to keep yourself from running around in circles. and there's LOTS of running around. there were no puzzles. it was all item hunting, and usually you didn't care about any of it because it it wasn't relevant to the story, or it was just meaningless. The game only took a couple hours to win, and I'm not an avid gamer. This game could appeal to an 8 yr old girl, but i think she would get frustrated with the controls, and she would definitely need a walkthrough. Go buy Syberia 1 and 2 and play those.

4 out of 5 stars AMAZING Graphics and textures hampered by poor gameplay   August 17, 2008

This game has some of the most gorgeous graphics of ANY game I have ever played. The world of Hans manages to be both hyper detailed and nearly flawlessly executed. You can tell by the details that the graphics and visual team threw their hearts into this game, and I commend them for their work because it is stunningly beautiful. However, when the dummies who were in charge of game play for this title completed their work, they managed to totally screw up and derail a game that had enormous potential. Moving the character around can be insanely frustrating, especially for the target demographic this game is intended for. Your character can walk into the distance and the camera won't follow him. Moving around other characters is extremely awkward, and there are times when it is really hard to reach and activate items unless you are standing directly in front of them. However, you can figure out how to move around in general pretty well after a time, but some kids won't invest this time because it initially is a pain in the rear. The inventory and menus are often counter-intuitive as well. The story is excellent, and the graphics alone make this a purchase you should make especially if you can find it cheap somewhere. If you can get beyond the annoying game play issues; the art and the story make for some entertaining family gaming.

I was very disappointed in this game. The early reviews I read made the game sound interesting. The story line was disjointed and boring. I finished the game hoping throughout it would improve. I purchased the game for me and my daughter, she quit after ten minutes. The main character didn't speak and I found it very hard to move him around the screen, especially if other characters were close.I usually enjoy The Adventure Company games, not this one.
