Album Description BEAUTY WILL RISE is a collection of 12 new and profound songs from Steven Curtis Chapman. Created in the past 18 months in the walk through the darkness of the loss of his daughter Maria, and while God continues to meet him there on the journey. Part lament, part praise, part grief, part hope, part wrestling, part pondering; these tracks resonate as Steven's personal Psalms. It is a desperately hopeful, raw, personal, and honest recording that is likely the most important of his already incredible 20 plus year ministry.

Beauty Will Rise June 23, 2010 M. Werner 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
It seems that tragedies in general, and death specifically, create fertile soil which fosters some of the most profound music-- albums such as Steven Curtis Chapman's 'Beauty Will Rise' is the fruit of that fertile ground. It's difficult to say 'I loved this album' because of the nature of the album. 'Beauty Will Rise' really resonated with me because the single 'Heaven is the Face' was released around the time of my younger brothers death. Steven shows not only his faith but the questioning that virtually everyone faces when we enter dark times in our lives. Chapman shows his emotions and his questioning with a sincerity and genuineness that can speak to anyone. For me personally, this album, while containing some of the most profound music I have ever heard, is very difficult for me to listen to. I couldn't even begin to understand the pain of losing a child and a pain that, I pray daily, I never have to experience. I truly admire Chapman's persistent faith that God is in control. Especially when he sings:
Though this first taste is bitter
There will be sweetness forever
When we finally taste and see
That our God is in control
Steven succinctly displays what every believer thinks, feels and experiences when personal tragedy touches our lives when he writes:
I don't even wanna breathe right now
All I wanna do is close my eyes
But I don't wanna open them again
Until I'm standing on the other side
I don't even wanna be right now
I don't wanna think another thought
And I don't wanna feel this pain I feel
And right now, pain is all I've got
It feels like it's all I've got, but I know it's not
No, I know You're all I've got
And I will trust You, I'll trust You
Trust You, God, I will
Even when I don't understand, even then I will say again
You are my God, and I will trust You
God, I'm longing for the day to come
When this cloudy glass I'm looking through
Is shattered in a million pieces
And finally I can just see You
God, You know I believe it's true
I know I will see You
But until the day I do
I will trust You, trust You
Trust You, God, I will
Even when I don't understand
Even then I will say again
You are my God, and I'll trust You
And with every breath I take
And for every day that breaks
I will trust You
I will trust You
And when nothing is making sense
Even then I will say again
God, I trust You
I will trust You
I know Your heart is good
I know Your love is strong
And I know Your plans for me
Are much better than my own
So I will trust You, trust You
I trust You, God, I do
Even when I can't see the end
And I will trust You
I will trust You, I will
Even when I don't understand
Even then I will say again
I will trust You, I will trust You, I will
I know Your heart is good,
Your love is strong,
Your plans for me are better than my own
Yeah, Your heart is good
Your love is strong
Your plans for me are better than my own
And I trust You
You are my God
And I will trust You
very different from his other works June 16, 2010 Eric Y. Lin (Irvine, CA United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Have always been a fan of SCC, this album is definitely different from his other works.
The music style of this album is mostly slower, more quiet, no rock style music like the one he use to have. The whole album's theme is revolving around his tragic lost of Maria. The lyrics are personal, sad, but hopeful.
Due to the consistency of the music style and the theme, I feel like I am listening to a long, single song in one CD. That is by no mean a bad thing, it is very special and personal.
That being said, if you are expecting some up beat songs, you might not find it here. What you will find is honest, personal message from SCC with acoustic style music.

this cd was different for me. very intense and sad, but i enjoyed it. the words were powerful, and yet soothing to my soul, as i have passed through deep waters myself. recommend it highly.
